Hello friends of Winbourne

Vintage 2005
The 2004/2005 season was very good to us.
The weather during vintage was perfect with none of the problems that affected some vineyards in the region. We have once again had some extremely positive comments from the buyers of our grapes about the quality that we produced. Nearly all grapes have been highly graded, so don't miss the wines from this year-they will be excellent.
Different varieties ripen at different times, but the whites are generally ahead of the reds. Grape growers use fruit baume (sugar) levels as a measure of ripeness. The sugar converts to alcohol during fermentation, and the baume measures correspond closely with the flavour of the bottled wine.
The Verdhello, Chardonnay and the Semillon were all picked at different baume levels, according to the styles of the wine that we are seeking to make this year.
The Shiraz, Merlot and the Cabernet Sauvignon were all picked at higher baume levels which will make for some exciting, full flavoured wines with very good colour. The red fruit was amongst the best produced in the Hunter this year. The Shiraz will produce superior wines, the Cabernet Sauvignon was the best we have ever seen and holds a lot of promise and we are excited about what will be an excellent fruity, smooth Merlot.
