Winbourne Wines Wins Gold
Upper Hunter wine company, Winbourne Wines, has won major awards at the National Boutique Wines of Australia Awards including a Gold for its 2002 Estate Chardonnay and a Bronze medal for its 2002 Melness Merlot.
Only two Gold medals were awarded in the Chardonnay class of some 150 entries with the Winbourne 2002 Estate Chardonnay receiving a high score of 55.5 points to win Gold.
Our wines are not mass produced and will not be found on sale in large bottle shop chains. The wines are continuing to be recognised as true single vineyard products reflecting our vineyard characteristics—its terroir.
The Winbourne vineyard in the Upper Hunter Valley near Scone was planted between 1996 and 1999 and has 143 acres under vine.
The traditional Hunter Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz vines are producing superior quality fruit. The Verdelho, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are showing that they are particularly suited to the deep well drained red basalt soil and elevated altitude of the Winbourne vineyard.
